Hi Lykkers! I didn’t fully understand the importance of skin prep until earlier this year. Once I started paying more attention to what I put on my skin before makeup, everything just started sitting so much nicer.
Even with oily skin, skipping hydration can leave makeup looking patchy or uneven. A little prep really does make a difference, and lately I’ve been loving a few Mixsoon products for creating a smoother, more comfortable base.

1. Mixsoon Bean Essence — $25

This quickly became one of my favorite skincare steps. The texture is lightweight and absorbs into my skin really nicely, so I can apply it before makeup without worrying about everything becoming greasy or pilling. I also love how much hydration it gives without making my skin feel overloaded. It’s just enough to make my skin feel soft and prepared for the next steps.
For makeup days, I especially appreciate products that don’t compete with my primer or foundation. Bean Essence has been super easy to layer, and my makeup seems to sit better when I use it beforehand.

2. Mixsoon Soondy Centella Asiatica Essence — $23

This one has become a favorite whenever my skin is looking a little more irritated or red than usual. The formula feels light and hydrating, so it fits nicely into my morning routine without making my skin feel heavy. Since adding it, I’ve noticed my skin looking calmer and more even overall. I also like that I can layer it with my other skincare without feeling like I’m putting on too many products. Before makeup, that lightweight feeling is exactly what I want.

3. Current State Bamboo + Amino Mega Moisture Cream — $18

A moisturizer is a non-negotiable step for me before makeup, and this cream works surprisingly well during the daytime. It has a lightweight feel and blends into my skin without leaving a thick layer sitting on top. Most importantly, I don’t have to worry about my makeup pilling once I start applying everything. I use it as the final skincare step before moving on to makeup, and it helps keep my skin feeling hydrated throughout the day.
I used to think oily skin meant skipping extra hydration, but that mindset definitely changed for me. A well-hydrated base can make such a difference in how makeup looks and feels. Sometimes the secret to better makeup isn’t another foundation or concealer. It’s what goes underneath.
