Do you know, Lykkers? My skincare nonnegotiables! When it comes to building a routine, I prefer products that feel comfortable, easy to use, and actually fit into everyday life.
For combination skin, lightweight textures can make the routine feel much more enjoyable without leaving the skin feeling overloaded.
A gel moisturizer
A gel moisturizer is one of my favorite options for combination skin. Compared with traditional cream moisturizers, a gel formula usually feels much lighter and more refreshing on the skin. It absorbs quickly and can provide hydration without leaving that heavy or greasy feeling behind. This makes it especially nice during the daytime or whenever the skin needs moisture but still prefers a lightweight finish. For anyone who tends to avoid moisturizer because creams feel too rich, a gel texture can be a really nice alternative.
Tretinoin (or any retinol)
Retinoids are another important part of my skincare lineup. Tretinoin is a prescription retinoid, while retinol is available in many over-the-counter products, so they aren't exactly interchangeable in strength or use. Retinoids are widely used for concerns such as clogged pores, uneven texture, and signs of skin aging. They can also help improve the overall appearance of skin tone over time. Because stronger retinoids can cause irritation, starting slowly and following product or medical guidance is important.
Oil-Free Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a daily essential, especially when using retinoid products. An oil-free formula can be a great match for combination skin because it often feels lightweight and absorbs comfortably without leaving a heavy finish. I love having a sunscreen that feels easy enough to apply every morning. When the texture is comfortable and works well under makeup, sticking with daily sun protection becomes much easier.
A lightweight gel moisturizer, a suitable retinoid, and comfortable daily sunscreen make a simple but effective skincare lineup. The key isn't having a huge collection of products—it is finding a few essentials that work well with the skin's needs and can be used consistently.
