Hi bestie! Let's talk about retinols — the one skincare step that can truly change your skin when used correctly.
I've been using retinol for a few years now, though I'll admit I wasn't always consistent at first.
But after becoming more mindful about my acne scars and skin texture, I started testing out different formulas to see what really worked best for me. If you're curious about which ones are worth trying, here's my honest review and rating of the retinols that made a difference in my routine!
1. Algenist – Green Microalgae Retinol
Retinol is one of the most effective ingredients for improving skin texture, boosting radiance, and reducing visible signs of aging. However, many traditional retinol formulas can be too harsh, especially for sensitive or dry skin. Algenist's Green Microalgae Retinol offers a gentler alternative powered by biotechnology, combining effectiveness with skin tolerance.
2. Neogen Real Retinol Serum
This one has easily become my top favorite! Even though it has a stronger percentage than what I started with, it hasn't caused any dryness or irritation at all. My skin feels smoother, brighter, and more even after using it consistently. It's gentle enough for sensitive skin yet powerful enough to fade acne scars and fine lines. Definitely a solid 10/10 for effectiveness and comfort!
3. Faded by Topicals
This product isn't a pure retinol, but I often use it alongside my retinol routine to help target acne scars and uneven tone. I'll be honest — the scent is quite strong and not my favorite, but the results speak for themselves. It helps clear blemishes and brighten dull areas over time. The tube also lasts a long time, which makes it a great investment for smoother, healthier-looking skin.
4. The Ordinary Aloe 2% + NAG 2% Solution
This serum is another favorite because it's gentle enough for both morning and night use, which helps speed up the overall process of improving texture. It calms redness, smooths uneven areas, and adds a layer of hydration that keeps the skin balanced. It's a great option if you want to fade scars or refine skin texture without worrying about irritation.
Using retinol consistently has completely changed the way my skin looks and feels from improving texture to fading acne marks. The key is patience and listening to your skin's needs. These three products have helped me stay on track with my routine without the dreaded dryness or peeling phase. So bestie, if you've been thinking about starting retinol or upgrading your current one, these are all worth trying — your skin will thank you later!
