Testing Black Eyeliners

· Fashion team
I have always loved a defined eye look, but finding an eyeliner that stays neat throughout the day can be challenging. Some formulas look perfect when first applied but slowly lose their intensity, soften or move depending on the skin and daily activities.
I decided to compare three black eyeliners and see how they performed after several hours of wear. For me, the perfect eyeliner needs to feel comfortable, apply smoothly and keep the eye makeup looking fresh without constant touch-ups.
1. Maybelline Tattoo Studio Gel Pencil
Maybelline Tattoo Studio Gel Pencil was the first formula I wanted to try because I usually prefer eyeliners that combine strong colour with an easy application. When I apply it, I notice that the texture feels creamy and smooth, making it simple to create a precise line close to the lashes.
What I like about this pencil is that it gives a more intense eye look without feeling difficult to work with. It can be used for a sharper eyeliner style, but it is also easy to soften when I want a more blended smoky effect.
In the comparison, the eyeliner still looked quite similar after several hours, with the black colour remaining visible. Of course, the final result can depend on individual factors such as skin type, eyelid preparation and the environment, but I liked how comfortable it felt during wear.
2. Maybelline Tattoo Studio Gel Pencil
The second comparison showed another look at the Maybelline Tattoo Studio formula in a different application. I find these types of tests interesting because the same eyeliner can sometimes appear differently depending on how much product is applied and how the eye area is prepared.
I usually prefer applying a thin layer first and building the intensity gradually. This helps create a cleaner finish and makes the eyeliner feel more natural for everyday makeup.
After several hours, the line remained visible and kept a soft, defined appearance. For me, this type of eyeliner works well when I want my makeup to look polished but still comfortable enough for a full day.
3. e.l.f. No Budge Retractable Eyeliner
The third eyeliner I looked at was e.l.f. No Budge Retractable Eyeliner. I was interested in trying this formula because retractable pencils are usually very convenient for quick makeup routines.
The application feels simple and practical, especially when I do not want to spend too much time creating my eye makeup. The texture allows me to draw a smooth line easily, and it works well for both everyday looks and slightly more dramatic styles.
In the wear comparison, the eyeliner continued to create a defined effect after several hours. Like with any eye product, the result may vary depending on natural skin oils, weather conditions and the way the makeup was applied.
My final thoughts
After comparing these three eyeliners, I realised that my favourite formulas are usually the ones that balance comfort and performance. I like products that make my routine easier rather than adding extra steps.
A good black eyeliner does not have to be complicated. Whether I want a soft everyday line or a more dramatic eye look, choosing the right texture and preparing the eyelid properly can make a noticeable difference in the final result.
